Description
An ancient oak stands alone in the meadow along the Catherine Creek trail in the Columbia River Gorge. Washington State.
In April and May the meadows are full of wildflowers( and that's when most hikers visit) but there is also an old homestead, forests of pine and oak and many birds.Autumn brings a whole new dimension to the landscape..
Fire, lightening, disease, or pests have contributed to this oaks' gnarly twisted remains, giving it a stunning silhouette against a gray, cloudy autumn sky.The odd shaped "hole" stores acorns and serves as hideaway for a squirrel family.
