Description
Historically yaks have been essential to the survival of the Tibetan and Nepalese people in the high altitudes of the Himalayas(14,000-20,000 feet.) These sheperds,or herdsmen have domesticated these ultimate pack animals to carry loads across high mountain passes, rugged terrain, in harsh weather. Little of the yak is wasted, their dried droppings are an important fuel, in the high altitude treeless environment, they are a meat and milk source and their hair can be used for rope, or fabric.
This abandoned, dilapidated stone hut along the Everest Base Camp Trek, Nepal still offers some refuge for these nomadic men as they graze their herds.
