Description
A young male lion basks in the sun.His pink, oval open mouth (oh my, what big teeth you have!!!) yawns.His tummy is full.
His mother still does the hunting and he is one big happy cub!!
The adult females live and hunt in large social groups,or prides.Each mom will keep her cubs close,female cubs for life and male cubs up to 4 years.At that age the young males will be driven out to compete with other males, often forming coalitions of " bachelors," brothers and cousins. The fortunate male can fight for and hold a pride for several years before being driven off again. While the head of a pride the male has defensive and reproductive duties. However, the females remain the primary hunters and parent. Both male and females mark their territory by roaring and scent marking with urine.
