Artist's Description
The Ebey and Crockett families, from Missouri, made the great migration west in the 1840-50's. They explored the gold fields of California, and the Oregon Willamette Valley but chose the fertile farmland of Whidbey Island, Washington to settle. Eventually at least 30 family members settled in this Puget Sound area. There was some conflict with the Native American and Alaskan tribes. The Jacob Ebey house was constructed in 1856 and at least one block house adjacent. The Pratt family eventually bought the property and because of their appreciation for the history and stewardship of the land ,ownership was transferred to the Nature Conservatory and ultimately to the Nat'l Park Service. Today it is Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve for the perpetual enjoyment and benefit of the American people. Visit, for a beautiful hike and history lesson.
