Description
Merino Sheep ready for summer shearing, South Island,New Zealand
The Merino sheep originated in Spain in the Middle Ages.
Spain's wealth was based on the Merino's prized fine wool.
Today the Merino sheep is a popular, prominent breed worldwide.
This New Zealand Merino sheep ranch, a vast expanse of land, uses dogs, both Border Collies and Australian Shepherds, to herd their sheep for grazing and annually into pens, for shearing.
This herd came stampeding down the hill and stopped abruptly on the dog's command!!
