Men at work using elephant power to transport bamboo,used in home construction,and
a woman,walking with her goats to market, both along a village road in the Terai, a lowland region in southern Nepal.
The Terai ( or plains) is a region in southern Nepal. It runs parallel to the foothills of the Himalayas and is the most fertile and productive region of Nepal where agriculture dominates, but there is also opportunity in agro-based industry, livestock and forestry. Families work hard and farming is becoming more mechanized. Women and children, especially, are beginning to see the opportunities of education, increased income and security in this region of Nepal.
