The dense blue ice appears static, calm, surreal, but there is tremendous action, and noise, creaking, and cracking as chunks of ice crash into the lake, a very dynamic scenario. Overall the glacier is growing, or al least in equilibrium, a bit mysterious to scientists in a world where most glaciers and ice fields are shrinking.
