We heard a rustling in the trees and determined we had awakened a sleeping ,three toed, sloth as we trekked through a Costa Rican jungle. Later we barely get a glimpse of her offspring she was protecting.
Sloths are a group of aboreal( living in trees) mammals noted for their reclusiveness, slow movements and hours of sleeping upside down hanging from trees in the South and Central American tropical rainforests. This mother was spotted while hiking in the Osa Peninsula of southwestern Costa Rica
