Artist's Description

A woman uses very rudimentary equipment, a shovel and a rusty wheelbarrow, to clear rubble and rocks in her village after the 2015 Nepal earthquake. The village, about 50 km northwest of Kathmandu was at the epicenter and destroyed. The villagers returned. Restoring electricity, water, roads, and schools was the priority as was restoring livelihoods, farming, and grazing livestock.
This is the condition of her village 2 years later, when we visited in 2017, one of many villages, all but forgotten.
Through the ongoing help of volunteers, donations and hard work there is now a community center, shelter, a health clinic, school, homes, education programs and hope..
The tin structure in the background is typical of the rebuilt homes, the traditional homes, destroyed, were stone, or brick and mortar..
